So far this year I’ve published 6 eBooks of short stories, and 2 nonfiction books. I’m so proud of myself for these accomplishments, and can’t wait to share more with you. The stories I am getting out to you this year go back as far as 2011. I decided I needed to finally get them out.
There is an incredible amount of work involved with each step of the writing process, from the writing itself, to the publishing phase, to the marketing/promotional stage. I’m not really good at this third part, but I’m working on it; learning as I go.
I’m meeting so many goals this year, including keeping you updated on the process, and for my ability to do all this I am thankful. I try to celebrate my accomplishments in small ways as I go, while keeping up the momentum and learning all I can. I still have so many stories to share, and am going to try to get as many out as I can before the end of the year.
For the most part, I have let you know about the process, if you want to self-publish your own stories. In my dream world I would hire someone to do the extensive editing and create book covers for me, but I’m just starting out and don’t have those funds. Someday, though, I will be able to pay someone for those services. For now, my daughter is helping me with the editing process. Her role being more of a proofreader, where she brings to my attention typos and things that might not sound quite right. She’ll be the first person I pay anything when I’m making enough money through my writing to pay anyone for a service. I am so thankful.
Keeping up with the goals I have set for myself is not always easy. When I’m feeling too stressed I step back, take a day off to relax, walk, and give my mind a rest. Then it is easy to get back to things. Often during that day off, my brain will hand me a solution to whatever problem I am facing. Taking breaks is necessary and helpful.
The important thing is that I keep going. I am still learning as I go, and I learn new things with every story I publish.
I don’t know why it is that this is the year I’m finally following through with things. I learned so much about self-publishing last year, I guess I felt I was ready. I’m pleased with myself and my progress.
Enjoy your day!
Shannon
