Still Learning to Promote

Today I’m sitting at my desk at the Inn where I work, writing blog posts because it is a bit slow here this time of year. My boss knows, and let’s me do this. He’s good about these kinds of things as long as we do our work.

It’s been so cold I haven’t walked in a couple of weeks. With my asthma, extremely low temperatures are a no-no for me – I’ve been getting rides to work and even skipped my writing session at Aroma Joe’s. Yesterday there was a break from the extreme cold, so I took the camera and ventured out. I’m so happy I did!

I walked for almost an hour, returning home refreshed and with a few good photographs.

I am working on promotional plans this week, for the upcoming short story I will be publishing – likely this month – as well as new promotional plans for already published short stories. I’m thinking up some new ways to get the word out about my stories, and still learning about this aspect of writing. It’s not my favorite part, by any means, but promoting what I write is important.

A few things I’ve come up with are:

  • Asking readers to share links to my ebooks people they know will be interested.
  • Asking readers to join me on GoodReads, AuthorsDen, and my other author platforms.
  • Writing a newspaper article about a character in one of my stories to post here on the blog.
  • Adding excerpts of eBooks on my author pages around the web.

This is just a short list. The ones I’m working on are longer. I’m getting there, learning as much as I can along the way.

Brightest Blessings!

Shannon
